San Bolkan, Ph.D.

After completing a B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of San Diego and a M.A. in Interpersonal Communication from San Diego State University, Dr. Bolkan earned a Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication from the University of Texas, Austin in 2007.

To date, Dr. Bolkan has been a professor of communication studies for over 9 years at various universities. He has taught at institutions including: San Diego State University, the Junior Statesman of America, Southwestern University, the University of Texas at Austin, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and he is currently a faculty member in the department of communication studies at California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Bolkan teaches a variety of courses including: Communication Training in Organizations, Public Speaking, Communication in Close Relationships, Interpersonal Communication, Communication Theory, Emergency Communication, and Corporate Communication.

Dr. Bolkan’s research focuses on applied communication and he has works published in a variety of peer reviewed outlets including: the Journal of Applied Communication Research; the Journal of Consumer Satisfaction, Dissatisfaction and Complaining Behavior; the Journal of Instructional Psychology; Basic and Applied Social Psychology, the Journal of Classroom Interaction, the Western Journal of Communication, and Communication Education.

As a professor, Dr. Bolkan consistently gets rave reviews from his students and was given the prestigious title of Assistant Instructor of the Year for 2005/2006 from the University of Texas and was voted as one of Bloomsburg University's most influential professors for 2007.
